A payday plan: give every dirham, rial and naira a job
Split your salary on the day it arrives, so the important things happen first.
Most money worries start the same way: salary arrives, spending starts, and saving is whatever is left at the end. A payday plan turns that around.
The four jobs
On payday, split your salary into:
- 1Bills and essentials: rent, school, food, transport, phone.
- 2Family: what you send home or give to others.
- 3Your future: your safety net, then goals and paying off debts.
- 4Free to spend: everything else, for living well without guilt.
Make it automatic
- Set standing orders for the same day salary arrives.
- Keep savings in a different account from spending.
- Record transfers home as they happen, with the fee.
Review once a cycle
At the end of each pay cycle, look at what went to each job. If free spending ran out early, look at the biggest categories, not the small treats.
