Talking about money as a family
Simple ways to agree on spending, saving and supporting family, without arguments.
Money is easier when everyone at home can see the same numbers and has a say.
Start with what you share
Agree on the few things that matter most to both of you: a safety net, school fees, a home, supporting parents. Write them down as goals.
A short weekly check-in
Ten minutes once a week is enough: what did we spend, is anything coming up, is there a bigger buy to decide on. Keep it about the plan, not about blame.
Agree on a limit for asking first
Pick an amount above which either of you asks before buying. Below it, no explanations needed.
Include the children
Pocket money with jars for spending, saving and giving teaches more than any lecture. Let them make small mistakes with small amounts.
Supporting family back home
Decide together what you send each month and treat it like a bill. Unplanned requests then become a shared decision, not a surprise.
